Gaming machine permits (unlicensed family entertainment centres)
Premises that do not have a Family Entertainment Centre Premises Licence issued under the Gambling Act 2005 can apply for the permit to make an unlimited number of category D only gaming machines available for use.

Renewing your permit
Your permit will last 10 years from the date of issue.
A reminder letter will be sent out to you one month before the due date with details of how to make a payment.
Gaming machine permits (alcohol-licensed premises)
Licensing authorities can issue gaming machine permits which allow additional category C and D gaming machines in alcohol-licensed premises.
A gaming machine is defined by the Gambling Act 2005 as a machine that is designed or adapted for use by individuals to gamble (whether or not it can also be used for other purposes). For example: fruit, slot, or jackpot machines.
What are the requirements?
- The premises must hold a Premises Licence under the Licensing Act 2003
- The applicant or the person giving notification for the use of up to two gaming
- machines on the premises, must hold the premises licence, issued under the
- Licensing Act 2003, which authorizes the sale of alcohol for consumption on
- the premises, which is the subject of the notification
- The licensed premises must have a bar at which the alcohol is served for consumption on the premises without a requirement that alcohol is served only with food
- The gaming machines must be located on the licensed premises named on the application
How much is it?
The cost depends on the type of application made.
Applying for two or less gaming machines
Any alcohol licensed premises are entitled to two category C or D gaming machines upon notification to a licensing authority.

When will my notification be confirmed?
We will send you confirmation for two machines or fewer within 5 working days of receiving the application. This should be kept in an easy to reach place to be produced on request by the Police, Council or Gambling Commission.
Applying for more than two gaming machines
The application form and return address is the same one used to notify the licensing authority of 2 or less gaming machines.
What happens next?
We may either grant or refuse an application.
Granting an application
In granting the application, we may alter the number and category of gaming machines authorised by the permit. We will issue the permit as soon as possible after that.
Refusing an application
If we refuse the application, we will let you know as soon as possible with reasons for refusal.
We must not refuse an application, or grant it for a different number or category of machines, unless we have notified you of our intention to do so and given you the opportunity to make a representation.
Annual permit fees
A reminder letter will be sent out to you one month before your annual fee due date detailing how to make payment.
Varying or transferring a permit
