Today, Monday 10 March we're celebrating Commonwealth Day 2025.

This year's theme is Together We Thrive celebrating the enduring spirit of the Commonwealth family and bringing together 2.7 billion Commonwealth citizens across the 56 member countries in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Americas, the Pacific and Europe.

Rooted in the principles of family, unity and peace, the theme highlights the importance of fostering strong and connected communities that support and empower their members, enabling meaningful progress.

Since 1977, Commonwealth Day has been observed every year on the second Monday of March. In recent years, it has grown from a single-day observance to a full week of celebrations.

His Majesty King Charles III said:

"In these uncertain times, where it is all too easy to believe that our differences are problems instead of a source of strength and an opportunity for learning, the Commonwealth's remarkable collection of nations and peoples come together in the spirit of support and, crucially, friendship."

In conjunction with Apple Music, the King has also launched his own playlist, The King's Music Room embracing the Commonwealth celebration and featuring music from Grace Jones to Beyoncé. We asked The Mayor of Preston, Councillor Philip Crowe, which song he'd include on his Playlist celebrating the Commonwealth and he chose 'These Are the Days of My Life by Queen.'

Preston prides itself on its diverse and multi-cultural communities and sends best wishes to our residents with links to the Commonwealth countries.
