You can make payments to us, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Pay online
Paying online is easy, once you have completed your details you will be taken to our secure payments site where you will be asked to pay using a debit or credit card.
All the information provided on the payments site is encrypted to keep it private and secure.
Online payments
You can pay for the following services:
- Council Tax
- Business Rates (NNDR)
- Housing Benefit Overpayment

Pay by Direct Debit
Direct Debit offers a quick and hassle free way of paying your bills and is available to all our customers. It is simple, safe and easy to use.
Council Tax
You can set up your Council Tax Direct Debit online, otherwise visit our Paying your Council Tax page for more information.
Business Rates
You can phone the Business Rates section on 01772 906972 (minicom: 01772 906858) with your bank account details.
The instruction will be actioned without the need to complete any paperwork.

For telephone payments please ring 0345 155 0028 and follow the instructions on the automated answering system.

Pay by online banking
You can use your own bank's online or telephone services to make a payment to us.
You can also set up a Standing Order at your bank.
Please be aware however that if you use these methods it could cause a delay in us receiving your payment. In some cases This could result in recovery action being taken.
Payments by online or telephone banking
You should allow 7 clear working days to ensure that payment is received by us on the due date.
Please quote your reference number together with the council's bank account details to make it clear what you are paying for.
Please note that if your bank charges for this service the charge must be met by you and not deducted from your payment.

Paying by Standing Order
Like Direct Debit payments, Standing Orders are a way of paying your council tax or business rates by instalments, which save you the time and the expense of making monthly payments yourself.
How to set up a Standing Order
- Contact your bank or building society and tell them you would like to set up a Standing Order to Preston City Council
- You will need to give your bank/building society our bank account details (please see above)
- You will also need to provide your account reference number. You will find that number on your bill
