Information relating to the current polling districts and polling places:

Polling District - CC1

• Area: No change.
• Polling Station: Proposed change to University of Central Lancashire.

St Walburge's Parish Centre is situated centrally within the polling district. It has disabled access and is well known to electors. There is limited on street parking but no specific disabled parking.

The entrance to the Parish Centre is via a driveway which is uneven in places.

We propose that the polling place be moved to the Foster Building, University of Central Lancashire, Fylde Road, Preston, PR1 2HE. The Foster Building houses an Advice and Resolution Centre (ARC) beside the main entrance which would make a suitable polling station and has its own separate doorway.

The Foster Building is within the district. It offers a modern space which is fully accessible with disabled parking available on Hope Street. The area surrounding the Foster Building is open with paving for easy accessibility.

Polling District - CC2

• Area: Split of CC2 into two separate districts to make an additional district.
• Polling Station: Propose to make Preston Minster a permanent Polling Place.

Preston Minster is being used as the Polling Place whilst the Harris Museum is undergoing refurbishment. However, we propose that the Minster is made the permanent Polling Place for district CC2. It has been attended by electors for a number of recent elections. It is a short walk away from the Harris and central within the polling district.

The Minster has disabled access and disabled parking. There was no parking at The Harris and there was only restricted on-street parking.

CC2 has a very large electorate. The district has many student accommodation buildings and more development is expected in the area. We propose to split CC2 into two separate districts along Fishergate to future proof the district.

A map of this proposed split is shown in Appendix 17.

Electors from both of the split districts would vote at Preston Minster.

Polling District - CC3

• Area: Merge with CC4. Re-number the district for the split of CC2.
• Polling Station: No change.

St Stephen's Primary School is situated centrally within the polling district. The Community Room is a small self sufficient complex attached to the school with a separate entrance which allows the school to remain open.

It has disabled access and extra signage is provided to direct electors. Where we always try to avoid using schools for polling stations, we propose to merge CC3 with CC4. This will eliminate the need to use the school.

Polling District - CC4

• Area: Merge with CC3, Re-number the district.
• Polling Station: Merge with CC3.

St Stephen's Parish Centre is situated centrally within the district, and it has disabled access.

The Council strives to avoid using schools as polling stations. If this merge was agreed, then St Stephen's Primary School will not be required any longer.

The historic Parliamentary boundary issue is no longer a restriction and new boundary lines will accommodate this merge. District CC4 has a smaller electorate and in previous polls there have consistently been under 200 electors turn out at elections.

This electorate can be absorbed easily into one polling district. There are also no boundary issues to consider for the merge.

Polling District - CC5

• Area: Re-number the district.
• Polling Station: No change.

County Hall is the most suitable polling place situated within the polling district. It is a small location but it is accessible to all electors, it is a well known building and has disabled access. There is disabled parking on Pitt Street available to the general public.

Limiting Factors

• CC1 is in Preston Central West Division.
• CC2, CC3, CC4 and CC5 are in Preston City Division
