Free home energy check

With just a few questions and about 30 minutes of your time you can find out what energy efficiency improvements you can make to your home.

You can save money every year by using more energy efficient appliances, insulating your home adequately and having a modern, well controlled heating system.

Free cavity wall and loft insulation

If your property is suitable you may be able to have a number of energy efficiency improvements installed in your home for free (subject to survey) including loft insulation and cavity wall insulation. Boiler replacements are also included on this scheme (subject to eligibility).

Our scheme is called Cosy Homes in Lancashire and is backed by all the Lancashire local authorities and we have funding available for owner-occupiers and private tenants to install a number of measures.

Please Note: All CHiL contractors will be wearing Identification cards which shows their photograph and their unique ID number which can be verified on Cosy Homes in Lancashire. If they do not have this card they are not working on our scheme so do not let them into your property.

How to apply

 To apply you must complete our energy efficiency online enquiry form.

Your details will then be passed to the CHiL Hub and a member of the team will organise a survey of your property. You will be advised in advance of the person who will be visiting your property so please always ask for identification before allowing anyone into your home.

Help with your heating

Funding is available to install 'first time' central heating systems through the Cosy Homes in Lancashire scheme. The level of funding is dependant on survey and the funding streams available at the time of application. 

The scheme is open to both owner-occupiers and private tenants and is available free to households in receipt of certain benefits or those on a low income with a vulnerability.

Boiler and gas fire service

Cosy Homes in Lancashire can offer a boiler or a gas fire service for £50 plus VAT.  If you have two gas appliances requiring a service you will receive a discount, so the total cost will be £90 plus VAT.

It is important that gas appliances are serviced every year.

This offer is available for domestic boilers only, however both owners and landlords can apply for this deal.

Funding for boiler replacements 

To qualify for a new boiler someone in your household must receive a qualifying benefit or be on a low income with a vulnerability. The level of funding is dependant on survey results and funding streams and is available for both owner-occupiers and private tenants.

Other energy efficiency improvements are also available, many free of charge including cavity wall and loft insulation.

RHEA Projects is the contractor working on these schemes. They will contact you directly to make an appointment soon after receiving the referral or enquiry.

Boiler efficiency database

Information relating to boiler efficiency including the Seasonal Efficiency of Domestic Boilers in the UK (SEDBUK) ratings is available on the Boiler Efficiency Database website.

Heating and hot water (central heating)

The Heating and Hot Water Industry Council website will help you get the best from your central heating system. It offers advice on what to do when it goes wrong and provides you with contact details of manufacturers of boilers and other components, as well as installers in your area. They can provide you with sound advice and a professional service when you need it.

Renewable energy

Renewable energy comes from sources which will not run out, for example the wind or the sun. It is clean energy which does not produce harmful greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide which contribute to climate change.

There is a variety of different renewable technologies available to homeowners. However, if you are considering installing a system you should be aware that depending on your house location some systems may not be suitable.

It is also important to ensure your home is very well insulated before considering these technologies.
