Final words from outgoing Mayor, Cllr Yakub Patel

Last week concludes the tenure of our 695^th Mayor of Preston City. During the 12-month period, the outgoing Mayor, attended 527 events across the city, and welcomed 253 people from across the world, to his Parlour.

To mark the occasion, Cllr Yakub Patel addressed his colleagues at the Mayor Making event at the Council Chamber in the Town Hall.

"It has been an incredible honour to serve this remarkable city, and I am humbled by the trust and support you have shown me throughout my time in office. 

I want to express my heartfelt thanks to the citizens of Preston. Your unwavering dedication to our city and your active participation in its progress have been a driving force behind our success."

In his speech he referenced his Mayoral charities, notably, Rosemere Cancer Trust at Royal Preston Hospital, Emmaus, and Preston Domestic Violence Services.

"They do outstanding work, and I was lucky enough to see more of it throughout the year. The generosity of the people of Preston is incredible and we raised thousands of pounds to support their hard work."

He concluded with;

"I had the privilege of attending over 500 events and engagements during my time as Mayor, representing Preston. I am proud to have been an ambassador for our city and to have strengthened partnerships that will benefit our community for years to come.

"Thanks to my family member and friends, and of course, my wife, who had to put up with me and my very busy schedule. I couldn't have done it without your support."
