In November 2023, the Government announced it would be willing to enter into a devolution deal with Lancashire County Council, Blackburn with Darwen Council and Blackpool Council to create a new Combined County Authority. They are now urging people to have their say through a County-wide consultation.

If approved, the deal will transfer new money and powers from central Government to the Combined County Authority allowing it to tackle key local priorities, as well as giving Lancashire a stronger voice on the regional and national stage.

The deal would not require a change to the established democratic structures across the county nor the need for an elected Mayor.

Residents and businesses are now being encouraged to voice their opinions on the draft devolution proposal, as part of a consultation running until 26 January 2024

Local people can feed back online, or by returning a printed survey which can be obtained from libraries. Drop in events have been arranged across the county, so people can find out more about the plans for Devolution and share their views.

The Preston event will be held from 6pm to 7pm on Wednesday 24 January at Fulwood Library, 294 Garstang Road, Fulwood, Preston PR2 9RX
