Making Spend Matter is a network of 7 European cities that have worked together to take a more strategic approach to public procurement to enhance the sustainable impact of their public spend and help tackle social, economic and environmental challenges.

The Making Spend Matter network forms one of 24 URBACT Transfer Networks. These networks are a collection of European cities that come together to create, share, adapt and reuse Good Practice learning tools to promote integrated and sustainable urban development.

The Network has been funded by the URBACT III Programme through the European Regional Development Fund.

What was the conference about?

The conference focused on the success of the Making Spend Matter transfer network and was hosted online by the city of Schaerbeek and led by the city of Preston on Wednesday 24 March 2021.

The conference began with a focus on the story of the Making Spend Matter Network and how spend analysis can be used to deliver more than just procurement priorities.

Three parallel sessions then gave participants the choice to hear from Making Spend Matter partners in more depth about what they have learnt throughout the project.

Finally a panel discussion gave the conference attendees the opportunity to ask questions of the panel about the strategic role of procurement in the future.
