We are responsible for investigating and removing needles, syringes and other drugs waste from streets and public open spaces in Preston.

Issues we don't deal with

For issues on the following types of land you will need to report the problem with the contact provided:

Private land

For needles, syringes and other drug waste issues on private land, it is the landowners responsibility to remove it. Private tenants should be advised to contact their landlord. Owner occupiers should contact a specialist contractor.

Canals

What happens next?

We will aim to remove discarded needles within 24 hours and inform the Police about details of the items found.

Safety points

Don't put yourself at risk:

  • Do not handle the item
  • Do not put the item in your bin, down a toilet, down a drain, or in a litter bin
  • Keep the needle or syringe out of the reach of children
  • Never approach anyone you see dropping a needle or  syringe - they could become violent

If you do suffer an injury from a discarded needle or syringe, seek medical advice and treatment immediately.
