Compensation and Insurance

The Occupiers Liability Act (1957) placed a duty of care upon property and/or land owners to ensure they are safe for users.

If you have suffered Loss, Damage or Personal Injury on any Council Owned Land you may be entitled to compensation.

Claims should be made in writing, detailing the full circumstances of the incident and provide photographs of the location and defect.

N.B. - Claims arising out of incidents occurring on the public highway (including roads and pavements) should be submitted to Lancashire County Council at the following address:

Preston City Council's responsibilities

Generally Preston City Council now only has responsibility for its own property portfolio including, but not restricted to:

• certain car parks,
• parks, open spaces and pathways (but not highway pavements).

If the incident giving rise to your claim occurred in any of these areas, full claims details should be sent to Preston City Council, FAO Insurance and Risk Manager, Town Hall, Lancaster Road, Preston, PR1 2RL.

Alternatively you can email the details to insurance@preston.gov.uk. 

Preston City Council is unable to forward claims presented to it in error on to other organisations, please therefore ensure that you establish which body is responsible for the area in question (having regard to the above) before presenting your claim.

Insurance claims portal

Solicitors lodging a claim (for non-highway related matters only) against Preston City Council should, to avoid unnecessary paperwork and costs, complete and submit the CNF electronically on the Insurance Claims Portal to our Liability Insurers.
