The city's strengths

Preston lamb

In Preston we are proud of our history of working with others around the world and the links we have built and benefited from through our international work on Community Wealth Building issues.

The City's strengths

Today our educational institutions and our businesses link us with cities and countries not just within the UK but across Europe and the rest of the world.

The city's strengths have always been, and still are:

  • communication
  • co-operation
  • sharing of goods, skills and knowledge

We still have much we can learn from the experience of others.

Joined up working and learning from others

Co-operation is key to modern business practice and important not just in terms of running an efficient council, but as central to building a successful city, blending the energy, assets, and specialist skills of all our anchor institutions, businesses and residents. We cannot create a socially just city alone.

We are keen to share our experiences and our thinking about building our approach to Community Wealth Building. But we are also keen to learn from the experiences of others, in the UK and further afield which may have practical lessons for us to apply in Preston and wider Lancashire.

That is why, building on our historic tradition of engaging with other parts of the UK, Europe and the world, we continue to invest in joint work and learning with other parts of the world.
