Where is the nearest recycling centre?

There are two local household waste and recycling centres (HWRCs) managed by Lancashire County Council.

Both recycling centres are open without the need for appointments for cars. Van and trailers are being accepted by appointment only. The usual permit systems are currently not operating, although you can still bring the waste.

Types of items you can recycle

Recycling centres let you recycle more of your waste, including items such as:

milk or juice cartons / Tetra Pak
light bulbs (fluorescent)
batteries
textiles / shoes
scrap metal (including items like pots and pans)
cooking oil

Hazardous waste disposal

Recycling centres accept the following types of hazardous waste:

Lighter fluid containers (or other flammable containers)
Paint cans
Household chemicals (e.g. pesticides, antifreeze and solvents)
Small household appliances (e.g. kettles, toasters, microwaves)
Large household appliances (e.g. washing machines, cookers)
Cooling appliances (e.g. fridges and freezers)
TVs and computer monitors

Asbestos waste disposal

You can dispose of asbestos at certain recycling centres. You must dispose of asbestos in the correct way to ensure it is safely handled and disposed of.

Reuse shop

Lancashire County Council's Household Waste and Recycling Centre at Tom Benson Way has opened a reuse shop which is open between 10am and 4pm Wednesday to Sunday.

The reuse shop accepts donations and sells:

Bric-a-brac
Electrical goods
Furniture
Spare parts
Bits 'n' bobs
Pre-loved bargains
