Holocaust Memorial Day - Fragility of Freedom

Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) takes place each year on 27 January in remembrance of those murdered during genocides around the world.

Update on RAAC at the Guild Hall Preston

25 January 2024: Specialist RAAC engineers have now carried out a triage inspection of the Guild Hall and it has been confirmed that RAAC (reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete) is present in the roof panels of the Grand Hall and Charter Theatre venues within the building.

Youth Zone Progresses with Appropriation of Rights

15 January 2024: The proposed Youth Zone project, in the heart of Preston's Harris Quarter, has progressed with the Appropriation of Rights for the land needed to allow for the development of the site.

Consultation on proposed Devolution Deal for Lancashire

12 January 2024: In November 2023, the Government announced it would be willing to enter into a devolution deal with Lancashire County Council, Blackburn with Darwen Council and Blackpool Council to create a new Combined County Authority. They are now urging people to have their say through a County-wide consultation.  

Deadline to register for the Preston People's Jury only days away

8 January 2024: More than 6,000 randomly selected households across the borough have received letters inviting them to be part of the Preston People's Climate jury and time is running out to register. The deadline to return applications is next Monday 15 January.

Knockout news: Lancashire School of Boxing opens new venue

8 January 2024: Lancashire School of Boxing will unveil its brand-new boxing ring and gym at Aqueduct Street Mill on Tuesday 9 January, thanks in part to financial support from Preston City Council. The club has been awarded £8,000 from the UK Government through the Council's UK Shared Prosperity Fund allocation, to enable it to install a top-notch rubber gym floor and essential infrastructure to support the boxing equipment.
