Report street litter

We aim to provide a clean and litter free environment throughout the city by putting resources where they are most needed and responding quickly when told about a street cleaning problem.

Our team of over 50 cleansing staff work to clean over 650 kilometres (400 miles) of streets in Preston. They collect more than 7,000 tonnes of litter and fly-tipping from our streets, pavements, back alleys and litter bins every year.

We have provided over 1000 litter bins throughout the city and these are emptied on a regular basis. The bins are sited in prominent spots and provide an easy way for you to dispose of your rubbish.

What happens if someone is caught littering?

Littering is a criminal offence. If anyone is caught littering they could be issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice of £150. If the matter leads to court proceedings the maximum fine could rise to £2500.

More serious cases of littering can be classed as fly tipping.

Leaflet distribution

Anyone who wants to hand out free printed matter in the city centre and university areas have to apply for consent with us.

Free printed matter are leaflets, newspapers, flyers, business cards and stickers used to promote a product, venue or an event.

Any person found to be distributing free printed matter without a consent or in breach of a condition of a consent could be liable to a fixed penalty notice charge of £150 or a fine up to a maximum of £2500.
