Ashton Park consultation
Preston City Council is launching consultation with the local community and partners with a view to enhancing the area's leisure facilities, in particular those in several parks.
The Proposal
It is proposed that the council make improvements to Ashton Park, which aim to provide better sports and leisure facilities as well as enhancing access, drainage and the diversity of the landscape.
In order to realise those improvements a number of elements will be delivered and these can be seen on the Masterplan.
Specifically, they will include the replacement of the dilapidated changing pavilion with a new pavilion to provide changing facilities, toilets, café, rooms for community groups to use and associated office.
We also hope to build a fully accessible, full-size 3G pitch (a 'third generation, synthetically surfaced turf pitch'). This will be a surface which replicates the qualities of a good quality natural grass pitch but which can be used all year.
Finally, a range of new grass football pitches will also be included.
The project would be paid for in part from the Levelling Up Fund grant which the City Council received following its successful bid in 2022. Other funding will come from Preston City Council and the Football Foundation (subject to a successful funding application).
The sports pitches along with the proposed new pavilion/community sports hub will provide a range of facilities and improvements to the park which would be available for the community.
The plan is to provide sport pitches for 'grassroots' sports including football. However, this will not mean the facilities (in particular the 3G pitch) are restricted to football use alone.
