Polling District - RI1

  • Area: Merge with RI2.
  • Polling Station: No change.

Grange Primary School is outside of the district within RI2. We propose to merge RI1 with RI2.

RI1 was historically separate due to being divided between two Parliamentary boundaries. This is no longer the case.

The district is entirely made up of just one building, the Norman Jepson Premier Inn. There is staff accommodation on site comprising of 3 flats. Although the district looks to be sizeable, it is made up of open space and commercial buildings with the Inn being the only residential building.

We propose to merge RI1 with RI2. The electors already vote at Grange Primary School and therefore will be no change for voters.

Polling District - RI2

  • Area: Merge with RI1.
  • Polling Station: No change.

Grange Primary School is central to the majority of electors. All housing in this district is west of the boundary and is bordered by the motorway. The rest of the area is made up of commercial space.

The location used within the school has recently been redeveloped to merge the library with a meeting room.

The change has created a separate entrance for the polling station conveniently straight off the car park so the school can remain open. It has disabled access, is now a large open space and is well known to electors. There is also on-street parking just outside of the school grounds. There are plans in the future to build a separate community space adjacent to the school which we will consider for use in the future.

Polling District - RI3

  • Area: Re-number to RI2.
  • Polling Station: No change.

Moor Nook CP School is the most suitable polling place within polling district.

A small ramp is provided to enable disabled access to the polling station. The building used for the polling station has its own entrance and can be separated from the school so it can remain open. There is parking available.

Polling District - RI4

  • Area: Re-number to RI3.
  • Polling Station: No change.

Moor Nook CP School is the most suitable polling place which is just outside of the district boundary. There are no suitable alternatives within the district. RI4 shares a polling place with RI3. RI4 belongs to a different Division to RI3 and so cannot be merged and must remain separate.

Polling District - RI5

  • Area: Re-number to RI4.
  • Polling Station: Proposed change to Farringdon Park Community Centre.

A mobile unit is currently used as a polling place and houses the polling station for district RI5.

This district belonged to a different Ward before the last review changed the boundaries and it was adopted into Ribbleton Ward.

The makeup of RI5 makes it difficult to identify a suitable polling location due to the residential nature of the district's boundary. Since the closure of Fishwick Hall Golf Club we have been unable to identify a suitable location. To solve this problem a temporary mobile station is used each year adjacent to the old Fishwick Hall Golf Club which is currently closed.

The mobile unit makes it difficult to comply with the accessibility requirements of the Elections Act 2022. It is very small inside and can only accommodate two voters at once. If an elector wishes to have their identification checked in private, then the mobile must be vacated to make space.

We also rely on the goodwill of the owner of the golf club to site the mobile on his land at election times. This could change if the site was sold on or developed. There have also been complaints from residents about the noise from the generator which is needed for heating and lighting

A temporary mobile unit is no longer suitable for electors. We propose to merge polling stations with RI6 and use Farringdon Park Community Centre. There is a pedestrian crossing to allow electors to cross the main road safely. The Community Centre has a large enough space to accommodate the additional small electorate in RI6.

Polling District - RI6

  • Area: Re-number to RI5.
  • Polling Station: No change.

Farringdon Park Community Centre is situated in the centre of the district and is well known to electors. It has a large room used for the polling station and has disabled access. There are a small number of car parking spaces and ample on-street parking available.

Polling District - RI7

  • Area: Re-number to RI6.
  • Polling Station: No change.

St Mary Magdalene Church hall is situated outside of the district within RI8. RI7 is in a different Ward Division to RI8 and cannot be merged. There are no other suitable polling places within the district. There is on-street parking available.

Polling District - RI8

  • Area: Re-number to RI7.
  • Polling Station: No change.

St Mary Magdalene Church Hall is on the edge of the district boundary with RI3. It has been used in recent years and is well known to the community. It has a large open hall and is accessibility compliant. There is on street parking available.

Limiting Factors

  • The Ribbleton ward is split between two different Divisions.
  • RI1, RI2, RI3 and RI8 are in Preston East Division.
  • RI4, RI5, RI6 and RI7 are in Preston South East Division.
