House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) licence fees

We have to charge a licence fee to cover the cost of administering the Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO) licensing scheme. To keep your costs to a minimum you should provide all the necessary information which you can find in our  page.

Licence costs

From the 1 October 2018, mandatory HMO licence fee costs will be set at the following rates.

Standard rate for a five-year licence; £608 (payable in 2 parts):

  • An initial application fee of £150 upon submission of an application (non-refundable).
  • The final balance of £458 for the HMO licence monitoring fee becomes payable when the proposed licence has been issued and before the full HMO licence is granted.

Penalty fees

An additional fee of £119 is payable following unreasonable failure to apply by the appropriate date.  This penalty fee will to be added to the full licence fee; therefore £727 in total.
