The winners of an exciting bin wagon design competition for secondary school pupils in Preston have been announced.

Participating students were asked to design recycling themed artwork to appear on one of Preston City Council's new bin wagons, due to arrive in spring / summer 2024.

Entries were judged by Councillor Freddie Bailey, the Head of Operations, and Waste Technical Officer on creativity, use of colour, suitability and ability to show reuse / recycling in Preston.

We received an excellent standard of entries from across five participating schools, and following a rigorous selection process, our winner and runners up were chosen.

Winners have been presented with certificates of recognition as well as a Waterstones gift voucher. As the main competition winner, Danikah will be invited to the Council depot to see her design in person when the bin wagon arrives towards the end of spring. She will also receive an Amazon Fire HD Plus tablet, provided by vehicle manufacturer Faun Zoeller and a Parker Pen provided by bin manufacturer Contenur.

Councillor Freddie Bailey, Cabinet member for environment and community safety at Preston City Council, said:

"It was an honour and a pleasure to be part of judging these fantastic and creative artwork pieces by some very talented Preston students.

"I can't wait to see the striking design when the vehicles roll out across the city, and I hope the students - and their families and schools - are very proud. It's a wonderful achievement."

Residents should keep their eyes peeled for the winning design on the new vehicles on their brown bin collection days.
