8 June 2023

Men's Health Week this year takes place from 12 to 18 June. This year's focus is on opening up conversations about health, finding out what support is available locally and reducing the poor health statistics for men in general.

On Wednesday, 14 June, between 10am and 2pm, Preston Wellfest is holding an event in support of Men's Health Week at The Gentry Bar, Preston North End Deepdale Stadium, PR1 6RU.

At the event there will be a number of local organisations represented, who will be happy to talk to people and provide information and support. The organisations attending include  Preston North End Community and Education Trust,  Healthwatch Lancashire, Listening Ear, Macmillan Cancer Support, NHS Talking Therapies Greater Preston, Release CIC, Samaritans, Safenet, Beacon Counselling Trust and The Recovery College.

Participants can also book free NHS Health Checks on the day.

From midday, anyone attending the event who wishes to take part, will have the opportunity to walk a lap of the PNE pitch with members of Preston North End Community and Education Trust and/or join in a 'walk and talk' session around Moor Park, which will last around 40 minutes.

Councillor Jennifer Mein, Cabinet member for health and wellbeing at Preston City Council, said:

"Our aim is for men's health week to help focus on developing 'healthy habits' - encouraging men to make small changes, which could have a long-lasting impact on their overall health and wellbeing.

"If we can empower men to prioritise their health, raise awareness about preventable health issues and provide resources to support general wellbeing, we can enable that change."
