Smiths Recreation Ground Improvements

Preston City Council has secured funding from The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities to do some refurbishment on Smiths Recreation Ground (Selborne Street, George Street) in 2023.

Play Area Update - 31 July 2023

The preparatory works have been done, however unfortunately we are facing a delay as we need to await a dry spell of weather and the availability of the specialist surfacing contractor to lay safer surfacing.  The original contractor will then complete the installation of the equipment.

Please be aware that the play area will remain closed until the new equipment and surfacing is installed.

What work will take place

The works will mainly consist of:

• Installing 4 new items of play equipment, on rubber surfacing.

The works will be done in stages, by two different contractors. We anticipate the preparatory works will start in early July and will take a few weeks.

What new play equipment will be available?

The new play equipment will be fitted in amongst the existing equipment and will include:

• Installing a new multi play unit, cone climber, twister and rotating spring seesaw, all on rubber surfacing.

Please be aware that the play area will be closed whilst the new equipment and surfacing is installed. They will also be some disruption to entrance areas onsite whilst the work takes place.
