Preston City Council urge community effort to prevent local lockdown

Preston residents are being asked to be more vigilant to help prevent the implementation of stricter lockdown measures following a spike of in Coronavirus cases in the city

Preston City Council are calling for residents to take extra precautions, including:

• Avoiding visitors in your home
• Wearing a face covering in enclosed public spaces - including Places of Worship
• Getting tested if you have symptoms, even if they are mild

These steps are in addition to the commonly shared messages around regularly washing and sanitising hands and giving each other enough space to social distance.

Adrian Phillips, Chief Executive at Preston City Council, said:

"We all - young and old alike - have a role to play in keeping ourselves, our friends, families and communities safe from this virus.

"None of us want a local lockdown to be introduced, and so, following a spike in cases we are proactively working with partners to prevent the situation from worsening.

"We're urging everyone to be diligent and play their part. Right now that means as well as washing hands and giving each other space, we are asking you to help us protect our city by taking these additional measures."

Preston City Council is working in close partnership with Lancashire County Council as well as community and faith groups to ensure all communities are exercising increased caution and following public health guidance.
