Homeless person on the street

If you have a housing problem or you are at risk of becoming homeless or you have just become homeless, please contact us for help.

The  Applying as homeless flowchart (PDF) [98KB]  provides an overview of the steps the council will follow if you apply for homeless help.

If you live outside of the Preston area

Am I homeless or at risk?

You are homeless if you have no home in the UK or anywhere else that would be reasonable for you to occupy.

You are at risk of becoming homeless if you have been asked to leave your current home within 56 days because:

  • You have been ordered by court to leave
  • You are living with family or friends who have asked you to leave
  • You are unable to live in your home due to violence, serious disrepair or financial hardship

What will happen when I call Housing Advice?

You can visit the Town Hall and speak to someone in the housing advice team without an appointment.

If you are homeless on the day you will be seen by the duty housing officer.

During this interview a full account of the situation and your housing needs will be taken to see what help we can provide, to help you keep your current home or find you a new home.

This is likely to involve us creating a personal housing plan for you. For more information on the personal housing plan process please read personal housing plan (PDF) [105KB] .
