Following last month's fire at the former Evoque nightclub and Odeon cinema on Church Street, contractors are continuing to clear the site of the emergency demolition works.

Barriers around the site remain in place while this work is ongoing.

Preston City Council's Planning department received a valid planning application on 14 June 2022 for the 'Demolition of the existing buildings and restoration of the site'. This application has only just been received and is going through the standard planning process, with a decision expected before 7 August 2022.

Ally Brown, Director of Communities and Environment, said:

"Emergency demolition work to this site was required immediately after the fire was extinguished. The elements of structure deemed immediately dangerous have now been taken down and contractors on behalf of the building owners are now in the process of removing the waste from the site and the current site compound will remain in place until this is complete.

"Our officers will assess all the information provided and should more information be required in order for our Planning decision to be made, this will be requested as necessary from the relevant agents. In the interests of safety, we will look closely at all information we receive."

Since the recent city centre incidents, Preston City Council has worked closely with partner agencies to monitor safety around other unused and at-risk buildings across the city centre and surrounding areas.
