We provide a friendly, helpful and efficient Building Control and Public Safety service to meet the needs of the community. We are dedicated to maintaining the highest standards in building design and construction, and are a publicly accountable and independent service.
We will work with you to help ensure building work meets national standards and to secure a built environment which is safe, healthy and accessible.
We have a highly qualified and experienced team of Building Control surveyors who will discuss and advise on proposed building projects at all stages of the construction process.
The team is professional and technical and can provide an extensive knowledge of local conditions and problems.
We are completely impartial. We aim to give a professional, prompt and courteous service.
Building Regulations are based on minimum standards only.
It must be noted that where residential properties are to be rented out these may be subject to further, and more onerous, legislation in relation to fire precautions and means of escape in the event of fire.
We will carry out site inspections on the same day if the request is made before 10am.
All our surveyors can be contacted on mobile phones or by e-mail and can be found on our Contact Building Control page.
Other areas e.g. room sizes and underground rooms also come under separate legislation covered within the remit of Housing Standards.
If you are not sure if you need Building Regulation approval it may be worthwhile getting informal advice from a Building Control Officer.
Before carrying out any building work, health and safety responsibilities must be considered.
You may need to notify the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). You may also have other duties under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM2015).
A domestic client does not have duties under CDM 2015 - but those who work for them on construction projects will.
