Annual Canvass 2020 - Electoral Register

From 23 July 2020, we will start to post out forms to all households confirming who is registered to vote.

The form shows the names of people who are currently registered to vote at your address. If the form is blank that means that no-one is registered.

This year the canvass has changed. Please read your form carefully as you may not need to reply. If you can, please reply online.

If you are unable to reply online you can complete the form and post it back to us.

Don't forget to include any 16, 17 or 18 year olds but don't include anyone under 16.

If adding a new person 

If you add someone's details to the form they will not automatically appear on the electoral register.

You will also need to register them individually at GOV.UK - register to vote or we will send out a personalised registration form. For more information see register to vote.

Impact of Covid-19 on the 2020 canvass

We are required by law to do the 2020 canvass, it is not suspended due to Covid-19 restrictions.

When we contact you, if you need to make a change to your registered information, please respond as soon as possible.

It means there will be no need to send additional forms, telephone or visit your property, which is particularly important in the present circumstances.

Are you a student?

You can register at both your home address and term-time address.

The Open Register

There are two versions of the register - the electoral register and the open register.

Your details will appear on the full version of the register, but you can choose to exclude your details from the open register by choosing to 'opt out.

The electoral register is used for elections, preventing and detecting crime, and checking applications for credit. The open register is available for general sale and can be used for commercial activities such as marketing.
